Dark Night of the Podcast

Episode 111 – Xtro (1982)

The boys know that their fans love it when dip their delicate toes into the world of obscure horror, and this title is definitely one title that checks off all the boxes. Bizarre and completely unexpected, if there’s one title that fans absolutely need to experience prior to listening to their review, it’s fucking Xtro. No idea what the hell Xtro actually means or what it stands for, but its a film that boasts an array of surprisingly fantastic practical effects, a plethora of elegant accents, highly unanticipated plot developments that come out of fucking nowhere, a surprise cameo appearance from the tequila worm from Poltergeist 2 but with legs, and a woman birthing literally birthing a grown man on her kitchen floor. It literally gives you everything you want, a few things you don’t, and so much more than you could ever anticipate from a movie with such an awful title. Now sit your asses down and find this movie before you listen to yet another fabulous episode!

Episode 110 – High Tension (2003)

It’s there’s one thing we know about the boys of Dark Night of the Podcast, it’s that they love themselves a proper, masculine, truck-driving lesbian! And few lesbians read quite as lesbianic as the androgynous and truly badass Marie from the ever-divisive 2003 French gore-fest High Tension. This early Alexandre Aja title has caused much contention amongst horror fans and for good reason; it throws a serious curveball at its viewers that has led to many a raised eyebrow and plenty of room for debate. But controversies aside, this movie also offers viewers some truly intense moments of drawn out suspense, a cement saw vs a car windshield, a man receiving oral pleasures from a decapitated head, and one of the best executions of a throat cutting to date. What’s not to like?! The tension is high this week over at Dark Night of the Podcast, and that’s exactly how Troy and Roger like it!
